Tropang Giga welcomes Ganuelas-Rosser in a heated dispute with E-Painters

TNT starts a new journey with Chot Reyes as coach two days after adding Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser to the team. They play Rain or Shine in the first game of the PBA Philippine Cup opening doubleheader at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

This is an interesting game between two teams that changed things during the midseason break.

Ganuelas-Rosser was able to join because TNT got rid of Justin Chua and Jaydee Tungcab. The Elasto Painters, on the other hand, got rid of James Yap and Rey Nambatac, which shows they’re ready to go heavy with their young guns, such as Anton Asistio, Gian Mamuyac, Leonard Santillan, Shaun Ildefonso, and Andrei Caracut.

Of course, coach Yeng Guiao will still use Beau Belga for board work. He will also rely on Keith Datu, Jhonard Clarito, Gabe Norwood, and Mark Borboran.

If the Elasto Painters didn’t make it past the rounds in the last Commissioner’s Cup, they could take heart from the fact that they came back from a 0-5 start to the tournament.

It even got them the seventh spot in the playoffs, and in their quarterfinal game, they pushed the ultimate champions, the San Miguel Beermen, to the limit before giving up 127–122.

For Guiao, how well they did in the Commissioner’s Cup shows how well they can do in the future.

When it came to teams, TNT barely made the playoffs with a 5-6 record because of injuries to key players like Jayson Castro and newcomer Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

But the Tropang Giga had some good times, and their up-and-coming stars, especially Calvin Oftana, a key player even on the national team, showed a lot of promise.

The team couldn’t handle not having enough ceiling and muscle, which is likely a big reason they signed Ganuelas-Rosser, a former top draft pick and Rookie of the Year winner.

The big Fil-Am forward has played in the Southeast Asian Games for Gilas Pilipinas with Reyes as their coach.

Ganuelas-Rosser should be able to fit in right away, especially since the Tropang Giga is still waiting for Poy Erram to come back.
